Jelmer werkt als Senior Consultant bij Strategy&. Hieronder deelt hij zijn ervaring, in het Engels.
What is your background?
I studied Industrial Engineering & Management (Technische Bedrijfskunde) in Twente, with a master specialisation in Financial Engineering. Before university I spent a year at an Australian High School (Queensland). During my studies I enjoyed my free time and made as much out of my opportunities as possible, e.g. by hitch-hiking around Europe and being the president of a student association.
I love diversity in my life and meeting different cultures. Likewise, a challenging environment doesn’t scare me, since I relish the opportunity to keep developing myself. Moreover, during my student life I discovered that engaging teamwork gives me a lot of energy. Consequently, strategy consulting is an obvious choice.
I met Strategy& for the first time during The Game business course, and immediately liked the atmosphere. At Strategy& your colleagues are your friends; they are down to earth and very energizing, which makes them a lot of fun to work with. During my internship I discovered how international the Amsterdam office is. It was a great experience to collaborate with different nationalities and have the opportunity to do projects all over Europe. And at Strategy& our projects are very interesting and impactful, which makes it exciting, time after time, to dive into something new.
What do you like most about your job?
I like the combination of doing new projects, being challenged to step out of my comfort zone, while being supported and gaining the trust to be able to develop myself. I like the work; a perfect balance between hard-core analytics and the softness of people and organizational change. Questioning the impact we make on every project, and making sure we produce the best results for the client also makes it very rewarding.
In addition to all this, the fun while clubbing with your colleagues, laughing over dinner or losing in a table-football match, makes life at Strategy& feel much more than just work.
