How did you become a Flow Trader?
Flow Traders was present at a Beta Career Day. Their competitor sparked my interest, so I went to their In-House Days. I also went to Flow Traders and felt right at home. That is why I chose them.
How long have you been part of the team?
Since November 2014.
What makes Flow Traders unique?
Flow Traders is a young and fast growing organisation. From day one, you receive a lot of responsibility. Any ideas you might have will be heard, because of Flow Trader’s horizontal structure. There is no hierarchy whatsoever. You are encouraged to grow and share your ideas.
What depicts a typical Flow Trader?
A hard worker, no lazy bum. He has to be direct, since that is the norm. Ready to make quick decisions and not afraid to take risks when he sees opportunities. When things do not turn out the way he predicted, he shouldn’t be too stubborn but be flexible instead.
Describe a typical working day
I arrive at 07:30 AM and start preparing for the day ahead. When the market opens at 09:00 AM there is no time for hesitation. You have to be sure of the prices when trading. After the first rush it quiets down a bit, but you need to stay focussed throughout the day. Which means you eat lunch at your desk in order to spot opportunities when they arise. When the day finishes at 06:00 PM we grab a beer or go to our in-house gym. Since we cannot take any work home, our weeknights and weekends are to be enjoyed.
What attracts you in this work?
Trading is quite binary; either you succeed or you do not. The consequences of your actions are immediately visible. Every moment of the day is a deadline. You cannot linger too long, as you need to concentrate on to the next deadline.
