How did you become a Flow Trader?
I was actively involved in the student association of our finance faculty. This included organizing events, which is one of the reasons I came into contact with Flow Traders. I always wanted to become a trader so starting at Flow Traders was an obvious choice.
How long have you been part of the team?
The 1st of April marked my three-year anniversary.
What depicts a typical Flow Trader?
A young, ambitious and creative guy. Not afraid to work hard; a real winner. Socially active too, since we often go out for a beer after work. A Flow Trader is intelligent and ready to rock.
What makes you happy?
I love working together in small teams. We are stimulated to work on innovative ideas and are given plenty of freedom. At our young age we are held responsible for our own actions. I like clear communication and things being dealt with immediately. This is what I was looking for in a job and that is what I found at Flow Traders.
What keeps you awake at night?
I do not lie awake often.
Sunday morning?
That depends on my alcohol intake the previous evening. If I feel fine, I grab a coffee and go for a run. Then I have lunch and meet my friends to watch a game, or spend the afternoon with my girlfriend.
Anything you would bring to a desert island?
My swim shorts.
What do you have lying on your bedside table?
My mobile phone, since it serves as my alarm clock.
Which music is currently blasting through your speakers?
I have quite a broad taste in music. It ranges from Top 40 music to deep house. With the festival season approaching, I listen to deep house more often.
Do you have any plans for the future?
I will stay here for another couple of years, motivated to give it my all. I realise this job is not something you will do forever. Since I do not see myself trading at another firm, there is no reason for me to leave Flow Traders. My next job should be something completely different. Maybe I will become an entrepreneur and start a business with my friends. Plans for a very distant future.
What was the last time you laughed out loud?
This morning. Together with eight colleagues we organize a weekly football pool. Each Monday we compare our bets. Writing down a ‘1’ implies the home team will win, a ‘2’ the away team will win and a ‘3’ equals a draw. This time we asked a newbie to join us. He entered the room with a huge smile on his face, thinking he had won. Unfortunately he had mixed up the numbers in our system, so he did lose after all.
